"Before White Man" was an oil painting done for the 1996 Cody Centennial. It depicts the valley where the city of Cody, Wyoming now stands. In the painting the valley is dominated by a herd of buffalo. The time frame of the painting is not before White contact, as the Native American buffalo hunters are all riding horses. But, the scene is set before the whites began to settle in this valley and build a town. These were simpler and more peaceful times.
