Description Portrait of a young cowboy wearing a baggy shirt with snaps, a flat-brimmed hat, and a scarf around his neck; has a suede mat.

Modern day cowboys who ride for ranches in northern Idaho and surrounding states are called "buckaroos". They are identified by a distinct style of western dress. This youngster appears to have an attitude as well.

Carrie Ballantyne grew up in California with a love of horses and ranch life. She worked on the Padlock ranch in Montana. Today she and her family live in Parkman, Wyoming where she draws portraits with colored pencils.
